Theatre 121 was born from a bold and exciting vision to unite two of McHenry County’s most beloved theatre companies into one dynamic organization. In 2019, Woodstock Musical Theatre Company (WMTC) and TownSquare Players, Inc. (TSP) came together to form a new 501(c)(3) non-profit, blending over 50 years of rich theatrical history.
Founded in 1968, TSP contributed deeply to the local arts scene, producing two shows each season at the Woodstock Opera House and, at times, staging musicals at the Raue Center for the Arts in Crystal Lake. For many years, TSP shared the Opera House’s theatre season with WMTC, bringing its unique artistic voice and commitment to community-based performance.
Founded in 1974, WMTC was a not-for-profit corporation run by a dedicated volunteer Board of Directors. The company produced multiple shows each year, including a cherished annual holiday production, and welcomed community members of all experience levels to participate both on stage and behind the scenes. With no dues or fees required, WMTC fostered an open and inclusive environment where membership was as simple as showing up and getting involved.
Theatre 121 carries forward that proud tradition with a focus on growth, collaboration, and creativity. One Vision, Two Legacies, One Future embodies the spirit of this new chapter. This unified company is rooted in history but looks ahead to an even brighter tomorrow. With a commitment to producing high-caliber, community-based theatre, Theatre 121 strives to create performances that entertain, challenge, and connect.
Theatre 121 is an inclusive theater for the McHenry County area, providing education, connections, and community through excellence in the arts. We strengthen the bonds of our community by drawing visitors to Woodstock and area businesses, developing skills both on and off the stage, and providing entertainment and a sense of community for all.
