Theatre 121 burst onto the scene with its inaugural production of Mamma Mia!, the beloved musical that brought audiences to their feet and set the tone for the company’s vibrant future. Set on a sun-drenched Greek island, the story follows Sophie as she prepares for her wedding and secretly invites three men from her mother Donna’s past, hoping to discover which one is her father. With ABBA’s timeless hits like “Dancing Queen,” “Take a Chance on Me,” and “Super Trouper,” this feel-good tale weaves together romance, laughter, and the enduring bonds of family and friendship.
As Theatre 121’s very first production, Mamma Mia! became more than a show, it was a celebration of community, creativity, and the joy of live performance. Its infectious energy and heartwarming spirit made it the perfect choice to launch a new era of theatre in McHenry County.
